This is an annual event which takes place at Silverstone a couple of weeks before the British Grand Prix. Each cyclist is sponsored, the proceeds of my efforts going to the British Retinitis Pigmentosa Society, a charity which funds research into a hereditary disorder which affects the retina, causing visual impairment. You can find out more about the BRPS here.
The simple idea is that you have 2 hours, from 18.00hrs to 20.00hrs, to do as many laps of the Silverstone British Grand Prix circuit as you can. The lap record standing in 2005 for the full distance of 3.1940 miles, was 1'18".739, at an average speed of 147mph, held by Michael Schumacher. My best lap record was 14'55", an average speed of 9.6mph, so maybe there's a bit more training to do before next year!. At the end of the 2 hours I managed the grand total of 6 laps, one more than the target I had set myself, or a pitiful total of 19.164 miles.
Talking of next year, would you be interested in taking part, or maybe you'd like to sponsor me to do it all again. Just get in touch and I'll be pleased to tell you more.
